About the Role

Our partner, an alternative Boston Public School, is seeking a dedicated English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher. This role supports youth in recovery by providing a safe, supportive, and academically enriching environment where students can grow personally, academically, and vocationally.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver ELA instruction to high school students in Grade 7 with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning
  • Develop lesson plans, materials, assessments, and evaluation standards aligned with Massachusetts curriculum frameworks
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grading, and student progress
  • Foster a structured and supportive classroom environment through effective classroom management
  • Communicate regularly with students and families regarding academic performance, attendance, and behavior
  • Collaborate with counselors and staff to support student success and behavior management
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school activities, including after-school programming
  • Follow all school policies and contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts or a related field required
  • 1–3 years of teaching experience with youth required
  • ELA teaching certification required (or ability to obtain within the first academic year)
  • Experience in an alternative high school setting strongly preferred
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds
