Job Description
Arbor Associates is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Assistant (TA) to support students in an adapted classroom environment in Springfield, MA. The TA will work under the supervision of the classroom teacher to assist students with academic, behavioral, and daily living support while reinforcing classroom objectives and Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
This role plays an important part in creating a structured, supportive, and engaging learning environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The ideal candidate is patient, dependable, and passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs.
Responsibilities
Classroom & Student Support
- Assist with adapted classroom activities, assignments, and instructional materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
- Reinforce classroom objectives and support students in meeting IEP goals.
- Provide individualized guidance and support to students throughout the school day.
- Help students follow daily schedules, routines, and transitions.
- Support students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and academic development.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment
- Communicate effectively with supervising teachers, instructional staff, healthcare professionals, and support personnel regarding student progress and implementation of IEP objectives.
- Collaborate with school staff to ensure students receive consistent support and care.
- Supervise students during off-campus activities including internships, volunteer opportunities, and field trips.
- Monitor student behavior and ensure student safety at all times.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must be EEC Cleared.
- Must have completed or willing to complete Strong Start 2.0 training.
- Previous experience working with children or students in a school, special education, or classroom setting preferred.
- Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with instructional staff.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain patient, professional, and supportive in challenging situations.
- Certified or willing to become certified in First Aide and CPR
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Experience supporting students with special needs or behavioral challenges.
- Ability to adapt to changing student needs and classroom environments.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.
- Ability to assist students with mobility and classroom activities as needed.
- Ability to supervise students in classroom and community-based settings
