Job Description
Job Title: Content Teacher – Science, Math, or ELA
Reports To: Education Director
Location: Barre, MA
Position Summary:
The Content Teacher provides subject-specific instruction to secondary-level students in a special education environment. Teachers develop and deliver curriculum aligned with Massachusetts curriculum frameworks while adapting instruction to meet the academic, behavioral, and developmental needs of each student. This role supports students in building the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to become responsible and productive members of society.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver instruction in Science, Mathematics, or English Language Arts (ELA) using differentiated teaching strategies.
Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Massachusetts curriculum frameworks.
Design and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and participate in related meetings.
Assess student progress through formal and informal assessments and maintain accurate documentation.
Create a safe, supportive, and structured classroom environment that promotes learning and respect.
Implement behavior management strategies and positive reinforcement techniques.
Support students with behavioral, emotional, or physical needs.
Collaborate with clinicians, case managers, direct care staff, and other educators to support student success.
Participate in team meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
Student Support & Classroom Environment:
Promote socially appropriate behavior and emotional growth.
Monitor student safety and respond to behaviors in accordance with school policies and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) practices.
Maintain consistent classroom expectations and behavioral guidelines.
Supervise students and support individual behavior plans when necessary.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Science, Mathematics, English, Psychology, or Human Services); Master’s preferred.
Massachusetts Teaching License or eligibility to obtain licensure post-hire.
0–3 years of related teaching experience preferred.
Valid driver’s license required.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
Ability to work in an active classroom setting and remain alert throughout the workday.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, or assist students as needed.
Ability to participate in CPI training and interventions when required.
