Position Summary
The school is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Science Teacher to join our educational team in Springfield, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will provide science instruction to students receiving special education services while creating an engaging, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
The teacher will be responsible for delivering science curriculum across multiple disciplines, including biology, chemistry, and related scientific subjects, while adapting instruction to meet students' individual educational needs and IEP goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging science lessons aligned with Massachusetts curriculum standards.
- Teach a variety of science subjects, including biology, chemistry, and general science.
- Adapt instructional methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and special education needs.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate academic and behavioral records.
- Collaborate with special education staff, related service providers, administrators, and families.
- Create a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school-based initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with DESE regulations and special education requirements.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- Massachusetts DESE License in Science.
- Experience working with students in special education settings or diverse learning environments.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
Preferred
- Special Education teaching experience.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and therapeutic educational practices.
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
