As Education Director, you will guide curriculum, oversee special education compliance, and support staff in delivering impactful educational programming that promotes intellectual, social, and emotional growth.
Your Role as an Arbor Education Director:
As the Education Director, you will provide strategic leadership and daily oversight for the Education Department. You will ensure all academic and special education services align with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) standards while fostering a collaborative, student-centered learning environment.
Primary Responsibilities as an Education Director:
Provide leadership and supervision to the Education Department, including the Assistant Education Director and education staff.
Oversee the development and implementation of academic programming aligned with the Massachusetts state standards.
Ensure compliance with special education regulations and oversee effective implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Guide curriculum development and instructional practices that support diverse learning needs.
Manage and coordinate all state and out-of-state standardized testing.
Serve as a liaison with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and other regulatory agencies.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
Support educational initiatives, including grant development and program improvements.
Participate as an active member of the organization’s leadership team.
Key Functions:
Oversee academic, special education, vocational, and transitional programming.
Ensure compliance with DOE regulations and all required educational documentation.
Supervise services addressing additional student needs, including occupational and physical therapy supports.
Monitor and support the implementation of individualized learning plans and progress tracking.
Maintain effective communication systems across departments and with external agencies.
Support staff development and mentorship to promote strong instructional practices.
Job Requirements
Qualifications that Set You Apart as an Education Director:
- Master’s degree in Moderate Special Needs, Special Education Administration, or related field.
- Special Education Administrator or Principal certification required.
- Moderate Special Needs certification preferred or required, depending on licensure pathway.
- 4–10 years of experience in education leadership, special education administration, or program management.
- Strong knowledge of DOE regulations, IEP development, curriculum design, differentiated instruction, and state testing requirements.
- Demonstrated experience supervising education staff and leading educational programs.
- Strong collaboration, leadership, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Flexibility to occasionally travel overnight or out of state.
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
- Willingness to participate in on-call responsibilities.
